The main objectives of this program are to create a comprehensive case for support for your nonprofit, full of persuasive impact stories, and set up tools needed to create and implement a grants strategy with ease. During this program, we will … 

  1. Foundation (Weeks 1 – 2): Understand key definitions and foundational tools for your grant strategy.
  2. Narrative + Need (weeks 3 -4): Create impact story collection processes and craft a case for support that reflects the important impact your organization has in the community. Plus, importantly, create a strong budget!
  3. Finding Funders (weeks 5 – 6): Explore strategies to identify funders, and access tools to track the funders who are mission aligned with your work. Plus, learn how to connect with funders and build meaningful relationships to deepen community impact.
  4. Preparation (Weeks 7 – 8): It’s action time: you have your first mission-aligned funder(s) decided – now, we’re going to reach out and establish a relationship with those foundations. Plus, set up templates and tools to make drafting grant applications seamless.
  5. First Draft (weeks 9 – 10): These two weeks we’ll focus on drafting your first grant proposal, reviewing the narrative and ensuring all details are in place to soon submit your first application.
  6. Set sail! (weeks 11 – 12): Submit your complete grant application, and then your on to the next funder! You’re set up for success and ready to roll. 

This is a hands-on program, meaning your nonprofit team will need to actively do the work in order to be successful. We provide curriculum, videos and worksheets for your team to work on with targeted due dates every 2 weeks. We also provide twice monthly live calls, and ongoing access for questions or challenges throughout the program.

Presence&Company will also:

  • Provide training, guidance, templates, tools and action steps;
  • Is available for questions via email or text, or during scheduled live Zoom sessions;
  • Can review your completed course work and offer suggestions and tips to improve.

This is a 90-day (12-week) program, yet it will provide an everlasting set of tools, templates and skills to establish award winning grant strategy.

Note: Our program focuses on 3 softwares that nonprofits can access for free; in a few instances, there some small fees to achieve specific functions – and these are optional! The three tools are: Google Sheets, Airtable or Trello. 

Weekly Course Breakdown

Foundation – Weeks 1 & 2

Objective: Understand key definitions and foundational tools for your grant strategy.

Action: Lessons will guide you to create your own shared drive for grants files, tell you exactly what to keep in that file and kickstart the process to writing a stronger, compelling grant narrative.

Narrative + Need – Weeks 3 & 4

Learning Objective: Create impact story collection processes, evaluate data presentation and create a support that reflects the important impact your organization has in the community. Plus, importantly, create a strong budget!

  • Collect more impact stories
  • Determine key data for your organization
  • Budgets, budgets, budgets

Action: Lessons will guide you through tools and systems for improving story and data collection, and provide templates and tips on creating a strong program budget.

Finding Funders – Weeks 5 & 6

Learning Objective: Explore strategies to identify funders, and access tools to track the funders who are mission aligned with your work. Plus, learn how to connect with funders and build meaningful relationships to deepen community impact.

  • Tools and tips to identify grant funders
  • Explore grant research + tracking calendars
  • Introduction to grant matrix

Action: Lessons will guide you to identify mission-aligned funders, plus setup a grant tracking system (we have templates for you to choose from and simply copy!

Preparation – Weeks 7 & 8

Learning Objective: It’s action time: you have your first mission-aligned funder(s) decided – now, we’re going to reach out and establish a relationship with those foundations. Plus, set up templates and tools to make drafting grant applications seamless.

  • Establish relationships with potential funders on your list
  • Setup grant “shell” and begin your application

Action: Lessons will guide you on setting up systems to make grant applications less time consuming grant after grant. Plus, we’ll work with you to choose your first funder and getting the application ready!

First Draft! Weeks 9 & 10

Learning Objective: These two weeks we’ll focus on drafting your first grant proposal, reviewing the narrative and ensuring all details are in place to soon submit your first application.

  • Write your first grant!
  • Peer review

Action: Lessons will guide you on setting your application up for the highest chance of success before submission, plus we’ll give feedback on grant applications including among peers.

Set Sail! Weeks 11 & 12

Learning Objective: Understand how to manage your grant strategy for the long term, keeping ahead of deadlines, managing reporting and getting repeat funding.

  • Best practices for using grants calendars
  • Tips for staying ahead of grant reporting needs
  • Repeat funding: the ultimate win!

Action: Lessons will guide you through scheduling the action steps needed to make your long term grant strategy a success.
